The Mucky Hands Gardening Club

Saturday mornings at Kilronan School, Magherafelt, became a very mucky affair! Children and their parents, grandparents and siblings from Desertmartin Primary School, Gaelscoil an tSeanchai and Kilronan Special School gathered from 10 am to 12 noon to learn a bit about nature and gardening through crafts and planting, whilst consuming lots of juice and buns. The classes ran from 7th March  to 25th April 2015 with a couple of weeks off for the Easter Holidays. We painted terracota pots and sowed herbs in them for our kitchens; we made a card and a beautiful pot of flowers for Mother’s Day; we created caterpillars, butterflies and bees and planted strawberries; we painted montains and sheep and planted alpines; we made scarecrows and created a mini-veg patch, and we finished off by planting flowers in old wellie boots. It was a wonderful series of classes which I thoroughly enjoyed – thank you all.
