S.T.E.P.S Thursday Evening Gardening Club

Based in Draperstown the S.T.E.P.S Group (Suicide. Talking. Educating. Preventing. Support.) aims to raise awareness of suicide and mental health, and hope people will take looking after their mental health as seriously as their physical health. To this end S.T.E.P.S. approached Community Gardening to deliver a series of recreational gardening classes in a business unit provided by The Workspace Group. The first six weeks ran from 5th February to 12th March 2015, and were so successful that we were asked to deliver another six weeks after the Easter break. For these sessions we were fortunate in having access to the Workspace Polytunnel in Back Row, Draperstown, which greatly extended our subject matter and the numbers that could be accommodated at each class. Running from the 23rd April to 28th May the classes provided physical activity, a chance to socialise and maybe even to learn the odd thing about gardening. The classes are continuing into June and July – everyone is welcome.
