‘Landscaping’ Your Garden

Community Gardening would like to thank the staff of the Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership for their support for the ‘Landscaping’ Your Garden Project, and the management committees, staff, volunteers, and pupils of An Rath Dubh, St. Eoghan’s Primary School (Moneyneena), St. Columba’s Primary School (Straw), Moneymore Heritage Trust (and The Jungle), Moneymore Primary School, and St. Patrick’s Primary School (Moneymore) for their enthusiasm, energy, and sheer hard work in making this small but inspiring project a great success. Each group carried out a species audit of their grounds, and planted native trees, shrubs and wildflowers suitable to their location and conditions. The Primary Schools designed their own ‘Alien’ plant, and collected poems, stories and songs about their local area, landscape and wildlife.

An Rath Dubh and Moneymore Heritage Trust will each host a cultural heritage and environmental evening in September which will bring together the participating groups in their area, to showcase the work undertaken in the project, to present local story tellers and musicians, and to outline the exciting plans they each have for the further development of environmental projects locally.
